Peeling is a special procedure of exfoliation of the skin as a result of which unevenness of the skin, even the fine wrinkles are removed, and the face becomes youthful. This method is indicated for prevention of skin ageing and correction of beauty defects. With peeling, the upper layer of the cornified and dead cells is removed and the put in motion the skin rejuvenation processes considerably improve skin’s elasticity.
Cosmetic peeling
The cosmetic superficial peeling exfoliates skin, maintains its elasticity, removes dead cells, cleanses the pores and removes comedons. If performed regularly, the procedure makes the skin elastic and soft.
Cosmetic superficial peeling is performed by means of two main „instruments” – a scrub and a gommage. Scrabs contain abrasives of a plant or „industrial” origin. In natural scrubs, grinded coconut or almond, or wheat bran is used– they are those which “scrape away” the upper layer of dead cells.
For a more sensitive skin the gommages are used - their impact is gentler and non-traumatic to skin. Gommages and scrubs are applied with finger-pads in combination with cosmetic massage on the face. Gommages are first applied on the face, and then rolled down with fingers together with the upper layer of cells. A contraindication for use of gommages is skin ageing processes – the skin with lost elasticity may stretch.
Cosmetic peeling may be also chemical – the dead cells of the skin are not scraped off but dissolved. It is due to fruit acids that present in peeling creams: lactic acid, malic acid, citric acid. Some peelings contain enzymes, and most frequently the enzymes obtained from fruit, for example, papaya and kivi, are used in modern cosmetology.
Frequency of cosmetic peelings mainly depends on the state of skin, but this procedure must not exceed one-two times a week.
Chemical peeling
Chemical peeling is performed by means of special solutions and chemical substances, causing burns on the superficial skin layer with a subsequent peeling off. A peeling is started with cleansing of the skin in order to normalize acidity and degrease it. Weak acid solutions evenly peel off the layer of epidermis promoting an accelerated synthesis of collagen, improving elasticity and tone of the skin. After that the acid activity is neutralised.
In cosmetology the peelings are divided into a medium-deep peeling when acid gets to the medium layers of the skin, a deep and a superficial chemical peeling.
The superficial chemical peeling is performed by means of alpha-hydroxyl acids, hydroxiacetic acid.
AHA peeling
AHA peeling (with alpha-hydroxyl acids) is regarded to be both gentle and very effective. It is a very sparing method which will not put off your stride, but could be used as a preventive treatment against skin ageing. Indications for use are problems with oily skin, signs of acne.
Fruit acids are obtained directly from grapes or sugar-cane. The method, the concentration of acid and the number of procedures is decided by a physician-dermatologist. Usually it is 5-10 seances with 10 – 15 day intervals.
Peeling by hydroxiacetic acid
A peeling by hydroxiacetic acid is used for rejuvenation, elimination of fine wrinkles on the face, particularly under the eyes. In order to eliminate superficial mimic wrinkles, a two-week therapy is sufficient. Sometimes oedema or redness appears after the peeling that must disappear in 24 hours. In order to avoid these post-procedure complications, the skin is prepared for the peeling at home by means of weak solutions of hydroxiacetic acid.
As you see, there are many opportunities nowadays to regain your youthful and healthy skin.
